Hi friends, last week I participated to the inauguration of new Transportation Design Dpt. academic year at IAAD design school of Torino. For this occasion I had the opportunity to talk to a big part of new students to explane how to live this scolastic experience at IAAD school, most of all I tried to tell them what I write about: emotions, passions and motivation. At the end of my speech I have been interviewed by Quattroruote website with Fabio Ferrante with who we talked about what it means to be a designer and how important talent is in our field.

A NEW type of competition! Details are posted here. Custom Car Skins® Competitions will become an avenue for Local Motors customers to host competitions on the design of their LM vehicle exterior. If you didn't know, all Local Motors vehicles are vinyl wrapped instead of painted because this process is more sustainable, cost effective, and customizable. Such a process also lends itself really nicely to Custom Car Skins®.
The first Custom Car Skins® competition is a challenge to design the skin for Local Motors' CEO Jay Rogers' 1971 Mercedes 280SL. Why are we doing a custom car skin for a non-Local Motors vehicle? We are testing out the process of the design competition as well as the vinyl wrapping so it will be fine-tuned when we present it to customers on their Rally Fighter. Also, the 280SL is a bangin' classic with great curves and it will serve as a nice showpiece for Local Motors and Custom Car Skins®. Details: here

Chris Bangle has left his job position as Design director at BMW, it looks like he is moving on a new personal development not yet specified.
I hope that Chris Bangle will remain in the automobile Design business because this world still needs him, on internet i read a lot of "sorry" comments on blogs and websites. There is a big part of public that recognizes the "flame Bangle signature" on BMW cars as an important Design statement that influenced a lot of other car designs and became a sort of new philosophy.
Chris in Fiat already started to apply his philosophical method about car Design and thanks to it we had (I was there at that time) the Fiat Downtown concept, Fiat Coupé, Fiat Barchetta, Fiat Bravo Brava ...etc. etc.
In BMW, as the big big boss, he had the time to plan a real development of his philosophy that became also more mature. In 15 years the BMW's cars have changed a lot and the time demonstrated that Bangle was right (at the beginning not very well accepted) in adopting his Design philosphy.
This blog wishes the best to Chris Bangle for his new future and Design adventure hoping to see him soon as the new big man in a new car Design studio.

Ettore Sottsass, one of the best italian designers and architects of last 50 years, died few hours ago in Italy at the age of 90.
This blog participates to the pain and sadness created by this death and is close to the family.
I had, personally, a great pleasure in meeting this great man in Art Center while I was a student, I remember his conference as one of the most passionate lessons in Design.
Gabriel Prats born and raised in B.A. Argentina graduated at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He is the founder of 3rd Eye Design Concepts based in Lake Forrest California. His experience is very strong in Shoes Design and Trends, he operates also in Transportation and Product Design.
